Back around 1984, when the Commodore computer was in many homes, one of many games released for the system was “The World’s Greatest Baseball Game”. Developed by Quest Inc. and published by Epyx, the game was shipped with a 5 1/4 inch floppy disc and came with an instruction manual. The software came with 25 classic teams including recent World Series and All Star teams of yesteryear. I remember my dad and I played a game with the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers and 1947 New York Yankees. You saw the player names on the screen if I remember correctly. The user could enter commands via keyboard or joystick. The “enhanced” edition of the game offered two options – you could play an action/arcade version where you controlled all of the players or the statistical game in which you managed the players but the computer controlled the player movement. The game was fun to play and it also kept statistics. Soon after Electronic Arts came out with Earl Weaver Baseball and this game went by the wayside. It was a good first effort.

I am 60 years of age, I am a long time fan of Strat-O-Matic, Bill James, the Red Sox, SABR member since 1982. I enjoy the baseball writing of Roger Angell, Thomas Boswell and Rob Neyer.
