Lessons learned: created my own Draft and Hold leagues starting on major holidays J – M, BestBall pays, limit high stakes leagues as much as possible, try to play leagues with $20 entry fees.
Fantasy Baseball formats
Obviously, there are quite a few different fantasy baseball formats. My favorite to play is the draft and hold format. I spend a lot of time researching players to try to excel at this format. During the season, I only have to look at my team once a week to set my lineups for the week Monday morning. But, I do get a chance to look at the teams every morning if I so choose to keep tabs on how they are doing on a daily basis. This minimal contact is ideal for me. I have to check in just enough, but not too much.
I am finding that BestBall works tangentially with Draft and Hold. BestBall pays the bills when my Draft and Hold teams flounder. I typically only look at these teams once a month and not extensively at that.
I do enjoy the three leagues that I run – 12-team mixed, 12-team AL-Only, and 12-team NL-only – to keep me in touch with every player in MLB. We run FAAB twice a week in those (Sunday morning, Wednesday morning), which is just enough to keep me connected to the teams.
