It’s the last day of May, and our intrepid broadcast crew heads West to Robison Field in St Louis for a post-Memorial Day revival of the 25-year rivalry between the Cubs and Cardinals. Claude Hendrix (1-2) takes the mound for the visitors, while Bill Doak (2-2) will get the pill for the Cards. Do-it-all shortstop Charlie Hollocher (.305) leads the Cubs offense, while Burt Shotton (.288) and Rogers Hornsby (22 RBI) drive the St. Louis attack. Shotton is the subject of this week’s “Deadball Portraits” feature.
