Keith Avallone, History Maker Baseball

Our guest speaker, Keith Avallone, launched PLAAY Games in 1999. The company has developed and released over two dozen games, including History Maker Baseball which debuted in 2013. HMB has found a foothold in the crowded baseball board game segment by offering a narrative approach to the game rather than numerical.

Steve Shaw, High Leverage Baseball

The guest speaker is Steve Shaw, creator of High Leverage Baseball, a tabletop simulation game that blends statistical accuracy with fast-paced gameplay. His passion for baseball—and his early introduction to tabletop and sports gaming in the 1980s—sparked a deep interest in mathematics, statistics, and programming, all of which now inform his work in game design.

Dean Patino, Baseball Classics

Our guest speaker is Dean Patino, founder of the Baseball Classics Legends on the Diamond, bringing immersive MLB board game experiences to fans around the world. He is also the author of several books chronicling Major League Baseball history from 1901 to the present.

Kenneth and Roswell Miller, APBA Baseball / Broadcast Blast

The guest speakers are Kenneth Miller and Roswell Miller. The Miller brothers designed APBA Major League Players Baseball for the Apple ][ and IBM PC along with the APBA Baseball for Windows / Broadcast Blast series.

Steve Etzel, Reverse Engineering Baseball Simulation Games

The guest speaker is Steve Etzel. Steve’s interest in baseball sims began as a teenager when he created two separate baseball games. He spends most of his gaming time analyzing tabletop baseball sims and building spreadsheets to create player cards for sims that are no longer on the market.

Nate Edwards, Japanese Baseball Video Games

The guest speaker is Nate Edwards, a writer whose passion is baseball video games new and old, foreign and domestic. Nate learned how to read Japanese after a chance meeting with an imported PlayStation 3 baseball game, and his 30-30.club website and YouTube channel spread awareness on the many baseball titles that don’t get released in baseball’s homeland. His writing has appeared in Deadspin, The Hardball Times, and an interactive fiction game for PC and mobile called The Fielder’s Choice.
