League Rules – Wizard League
SABR Games and Simulations presents the “Wizards League” – where “everything just happens!” There was no stopping Ozzie Smith when he was in the groove. This “just for fun” league offers new incentive for owners to keep up with their regular team for the entire season.
This will be a mixed-league, 12 team, auction format weekly league consisting of the top 4 owners from each of our SABR G&S Fantasy Baseball weekly leagues, based on their placement in the standings during the previous season. Any gaps (owners who are unable or do not wish to participate) will be filled using the next best team in the standings based on their total points scored in the prior year.
Owners who qualify for a team in the Wizards League would continue to play in their existing league throughout the season. Owners with more than one team in multiple leagues are eligible to play in the Wizards League in 2026 but not in the following year, in order to give others a chance to participate in the league. The champion of the Wizards League automatically returns to defend their title during the following season, even if they don’t finish in the top 4 of their regular SABR G&S Fantasy Baseball league.
In the Wizards League, there are no keepers – each owner will acquire a new team of players via auction from the full pool of MLB players prior to the beginning of every season. Playing in the Wizards League is based on owners’ finishes from the previous year. If an owner doesn’t finish 4th or better in one of our regular weekly leagues in 2026, that owner will not qualify for the Wizards League in 2027.
Each team will have an auction salary cap of 260 (virtual) dollars and a free agent acquisition budget (FAAB) of 50 (virtual) dollars.
To discourage unfair trades and salary dumping, teams may not drop players on the Fantrax “Can’t Drop List”. The Can’t Drop List is used to preserve league integrity by preventing many of the elite players (the approximate # varies depending upon the sport) from being dropped by team managers. This list is updated by Fantrax on a regular basis during the season, with players being added and removed based on performance and injury. Players on this list can still be benched or traded.
There will be a trade veto process for the Wizards League. The other owners have 72 hours after a trade is submitted to accept or veto a trade. Four vetoes are required to void a trade.
2026 Leagues will be hosted on the Fantrax Fantasy Baseball website
Only “virtual” dollars will be utilized – no money will be exchanged
League(s) purpose – enjoyment, competition and bragging rights with potential to research or explore whether any particular team construction methods consistently out-perform others.
Scoring – the standard 5×5 categories will be utilized:
Batting – Batting Average, Runs Scored, Home Runs, Runs Batted In, Stolen Bases
Pitching – Earned Run Average, WHIP (Walks + Hits/Innings Pitched), Strikeouts, Wins, Saves
Weekly transactions / set lineups on Mondays prior to start of first game on that date
$1 minimum waiver claim
Free agent claims processed on Sunday (allows time to move claimed players into active lineup on Monday)
Salary Cap – $260
FAAB – $50

We would like to offer the opportunity to participate in a Baseball Sim Auction league during the off-season. Committee member Andy Palomino is the commissioner / auctioneer and the brains behind Baseball Sim Auctions.
Here’s how it works:
You can view Andy’s tutorial video for a thorough explanation:
You do not need to be a committee member, SABR member or purchase anything in order to participate. Please contact us via sabrbaseballgaming@gmail.com if you are interested!
