Game Recap
Scott McGregor threw 8 2/3 innings and Cal Ripken hit a 2-run homerun in the third to lift the Baltimore Orioles (4-2) to a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees Sunday in the Bronx. McGregor was masterful, striking out three, allowing no walks and two hits to pace the Birds, while the Yanks (45-29) couldn’t get anything going against the left-hander, until the 9th, when Roy Smalley singled with two outs and Dave Collins tripled, bringing Smalley home and cutting the deficit to 2-1. Tippy Martinez replaced McGregor and after a walk to Cerone, got Graig Nettles to line out to 2B Rich Dauer to end the game. Shane Rawley took the loss for the Bombers.
