Back to 1982 and to a Major League 1988

The 82 Yanks just beat Cleveland two of three in the Stadium this week, which gave me an idea. First a recap of the series and then the idea:

The Yanks took Game 1 6-4. Dave Winfield went 2-4 with an RBI, Ken Griffey was 2-5 and Oscar Gamble added another HR. Shane Rawley got the win and Rick Sutcliffe took the loss. Cleveland bounced back in Game 2. Mike Hargrove went 4-5 as Ed Whitson outdueled Roger Erickson. Roy Smalley added a double and Gamble a single for NY. In the finale, John Mayberry hit a walk-off HR off Dan Spillner to give the Yanks a 3-2 win. The Yanks on the year are now 80-56. With this replay shortly pivoting to Milwaukee and Baltimore in the AL East to determine the winner, it got me thinking of the next replay here.

Enter AB, who is my writing partner and also a dedicated old-school baseball fan. She is from Cleveland and loved the old school Indians, so, She and I, being the big old-school baseball fans that we are, will be replaying the 1988 Cleveland Indians shortly culminating in an end-of-season matchup with the dreaded NY Yankees, just like the movie, Major League. We will be posting results here.

Thank you for allowing us to indulge our inner eight-year-olds, who wanted nothing more in the summer than Wiffleball, games of catch, Big League Chew and sitting around the transistor listening to Tom Hamilton as the voice of Summer.

Our Season preview will be up once she returns and when she does, PLAY BALL!

The 1982 Yanks will run parallel with the 1988 Indians.

Hmmm – you don’t think there will be one massive World Series in the end, her team vs mine, for bragging rights for the rest of our lives do you?

do you?
